Which One is More Important for Successful Internet Marketing – Product or Mailing List?

If you would ask the question, “Which one is more important – the mailing list or the product?” any savvy marketer would answer you, “The mailing list!”

Principally, any wise business person puts the importance of not just any demand, but hungry demand in front of the product. In other words, there is no product if there is no demand! And a mailing list represents the demand- or your business- if you would like to call it.

If you frequent the Joint Venture forums and membership sites any, you will find that product and service owners need mailing list owners more than the other way round. This is because the mailing list owners have the prospects that the other type of partner is looking for.

And if you are a mailing list owner, you do not have to necessarily make money from selling your own product. You can sell advertising space or craft a Joint Venture with product owners in return for commissions, whether they’re recurring or not.

The most successful internet marketing businesses today often establish the mailing list (or subscribers) first before the product. One fine example is Friendster.com.

Friendster.com, in a nutshell, is a website that connects friends and potential friends from around the world through a free membership access.

While Friendster.com does not make money from the number of members who join the site, the business makes money from selling advertising space and partnering with other big time merchants and businesses, owing to the established number of members Friendster.com has recruited.

This business is a perfect example that demonstrates why every business should establish a need or demand before the product itself, and why you should do the same, no matter what type of business you have on the internet. It is then that you can simply lead your prospects to sale after sale.

Successful Internet Marketing

I know what you want. A simple, easy way to make a million dollars in a month. And if you believe that, I have a program that has been developed worth thousands of dollars, but I am offering it to you for only $39.95. You know the story. What I really am going to tell you is what true successful internet marketing is about.

Don’t get me wrong. In our times, there are many ways to automate marketing on the internet. I‘ll describe those timesavers in a minute, but anything worthwhile is worth putting a little sweat into. You want to know the steps it takes to truly make money online. I am going to share four steps to basic online success. They may seem simple, but so many people get them wrong.

Most people go chasing from one internet program to another without focusing on an internet business. Any business needs to be treated as a business. It isn’t a lark. It is a business. If you are serious about successful internet marketing, be serious about creating a business.

Step One. You need to put a plan into place. I start with my end goal in mind. Then I work backwards. What are the steps I need to do to meet that goal. What are the questions I have along the way to meet those goals? Write down everything graphically to brainstorm and then write a descriptive plan from there.

Put a business plan into place.

Step Two. Target marketing. Now what do I mean by niche? I’m sure you’ve heard it. You need a focus. You are not going to sell products to increase traffic to websites to everyone on the internet. You can sell products that teach people how to exactly increase website traffic by using adwords campaigns. That is your market and those people will buy from you over and over if you meet their needs by your focus.

Step Three. Brand Yourself and Your Company. Whether you are marketing your own service, product, or you are an affiliate marketer, you must focus on how you will brand yourself and create your niche. Simply by putting your face and name out there on the internet begins to develop a presence for you.

Social Media has made it even more effective to do this as you use social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to present your and your company’s image. As your marketing efforts multiply, people begin recognizing your name and company’s name.

Step Four. Test and Multiply Your Efforts. You know what you’re selling, you know who you are selling to, you have a name and company geared toward your niche. As you begin to advertise your product or someone else’s, don’t make the mistake of not tracking where your advertising is going and what your are getting from it.

You will go broke unless you pay attention to detail and track your advertising efforts. Where did you advertise? When did you advertise there? Which day of the week was it, month, time of day. How many responses did you get? Did you get a lot of traffic, but no sales?

Traffic does not equal sales. Only traffic where the buyers are will bring you the sales. That is why you must keep detailed records. When you find the places and times that are bringing you sales and giving you a profit, then start multiplying your efforts there.

Step Five. Automate Your Online Efforts. There are many ways now to enhance your presence on the internet, creatively advertise, and get a leg up on the competition. For example, I use small opt-in boxes with a small advertisement for people to sign up to follow me on my Twitter page.

The technology I use makes it so I can put that on any website. I also use that same technology to put an opt-in box to my newsletter on any website. My newsletters and email marketing goes out on a regular basis not mailed by me, but automatically by a service.

There is also a particular software out there that will write articles for you. Not a junk spinner, but a quality writer. Many of these things don’t cost a lot of money. They save you time and of course, time is money. You will get to the point where you can outsource your efforts so you can have that precious commodity, time.

There is more to successful internet marketing, but those are the five basic items that ground me and allow me to stay focused on my efforts. As you grow, you learn. You’ll become an expert in a specific area, whether it be blogging, social media, article marketing, books or your particular niche, and not only will your business continue to grow, but so will you.

The True Power Of Twitter, Part 2

This article follows on from Part 1, in which we discussed some of the most important tips and tricks for optimising your Twitter account, and increasing your online influence.

#3 - When you introduce monetisation, be subtle and cautious. Twitter isn't something that you can monetise straight away. If you're an absolute
beginner, your follower count is next to nothing, your credibility is low, and you're known to nobody. Before you can effectively market your products through Twitter, you need to built up those three elements. Here's how:

To increase your follower count, either use a Twitter follower system, or go about it manually. There are major advantages and disadvantages to each method, but in the end they'll likely produce the same results. When you use a Twitter follower system, you'll gain massive amounts of followers quickly.

While most of them will be highly targeted and appropriate, some of them won't be, and you'll likely lose a few over time. By contrast, if you go about gaining those followers manually, you'll need to spend a massive amount of time on Twitter in order to match the follower account of the Twitter follower systems.

This one's a trade off; one offers faster followers, and one offers greater customisability. Each to their own.

Secondly, increase your reputation, credibility and online persona by creating value for Twitter users. This could mean anything from providing interesting links to helping people with their problems online. Everyone's an expert at something, so use your innovative and unique skill set to help other Twitter users.

This is where you should begin to approach monetisation. When your audience is behind you, you can take them anywhere. Slowly introduce affiliate links and promotional material into your tweets, but don't overdo it. The aim is to ease your followers into your promotions, not to brute force them into clicking on your links.

Treat your followers right and you'll end up with a massive permission marketing resource.

#4 - When all else fails, learn from it and change your plan. There are more variables to Twitter promotion than this article could possibly cover, and that's a good thing. When there are so many variables within a system, the possibility to dominate a small niche and make massive money through it is endless.

However, due to the massive amounts of variables in Twitter, many entrepreneurs and marketers don't make it the first time. Here's what to do if you're one of them.

Learn from your failure. Take it in stride, make notes of what went wrong, and start again. The beauty of Twitter is that you can always communicate with your followers, and this gives you a huge advantage for information gathering and metric testing. If one of your Twitter strategies isn't working, test your audience with it, learn from what went wrong, and incorporate the new knowledge into your next campaign. This is how you'll truly dominate Twitter, and effectively use it as a powerful marketing platform.

The True Power Of Twitter

Twitter is a service that's received equal amounts of hype and disdain, with many internet pundits hailing it as the coming of a new generation of short attention spans. With so many people using the service now, there's certainly some truth to their argument. However, there are many ways to use Twitter as a highly useful marketing tool, beginning with just a few simple marketing principles.

Whether you're a Twitter power user or just someone that wants to get more exposure for yourself or your business, optimising your Twitter usage through some very basic principles can lead to massive
increases in your affiliate earnings, page views, and advertising revenue. These simple tips and strategies are detailed below:

#1 - Follow as many interesting people as you can.

This is a Twitter strategy that all too often gets massively misunderstood. With many accounts having massive follower counts, there are also far too many that have huge 'following' counts. Lets explain the differences between a value creating follower, and a value extracting follower:

A value creating follower is someone with whom you can connect, benefit from through tangible results, and communicate with to create value for both sides. This can be a mentor, an artist that you admire, or just someone that's interesting to you. It doesn't necessarily have to be anyone important, just someone that can create value you, and for whom you can create value.

A value extracting follower is someone that follows you for the sole purpose of increasing their follower count. This can be a false metric sometimes. While often your follower count is a great way of gauging your online influence, all too often it can become deceptive. When your follower count is filled to the brim with followers that are only there for their own personal gain, it massively devalues your total follower count's value.

#2 - Give your followers more than you take.

This is one strategy that far too many Twitter marketers fail to achieve. Instead of creating value for their followers and winning their trust, many marketers simply spam their followers with endless affiliate links, poorly crafted sales pitches, and shameless self promotion. This isn't a long term strategy.

Affiliate links and promotional material can prove to be an exceptionally powerful and lucrative resource, but without the proper amount of preceding value, your followers will likely click away once they hit your sales page. You need to build trust with your followers before you lead them towards any sales pages or money making opportunities.

Spend some time building that trust, and you can take your followers anywhere you can imagine.
This all boils down to a basic marketing truth: people will always listen to someone they trust before someone they don't. Nowhere is this more true than on the internet, where spam and advertising is always present. Be the knight in shining armour and you can eventually lead your followers down a path that makes you massive amounts of money.

How Can I Keep Others From Stealing My Links?

So you have finally stepped into the world of making money online. You too, like the others, have decided to start with the affiliate programs. Also, you must have heard that it’s not a big deal to make good money with affiliate marketing, provided you choose the right programs and do some strategic planning while promoting your affiliate products. So far so good.

Whether you are promoting other people’s products or promoting your own products – that doesn’t matter because after all it is nothing but your own business and your means to earn good money. So whichever be your case, I am sure you would not want to leave money on the table and invite others to steal your share of profit.

Even though the industry of affiliate marketing is pretty competitive but if you are cautious and are strategic in your marketing techniques then, it could be very profitable for you.

Take a close look at the industry, you will see that not every one who gets into affiliate marketing is successful. People who are doing well leave no room for failure and take all security measures and understand its importance.

Yes! Security is one of the key factors in affiliate marketing. If you do not adopt proper security measures, then your business will be at high risk. One of the most important way to restore security is to protect your affiliate links. Do not take them for granted. A bit of carelessness on your part in regards to affiliate links may cost you a lot of dollars.

Do you know the long complicated links that you send to your prospective customers not only look convoluted but they can create a lot of problems too! If you send such an affiliate link to your customers, then the smart ones will definitely figure out that you are promoting someone else’s product and they would rather visit the parent company. Also, if your link does not function then your customers have to type a really long URL into the browser, which will definitely put him or her off.

You could be a victim of even a worse situation. What if some devious Internet pirates steal your affiliate links and replace them with theirs. If they do that, then you get no commission at all.

Did I scare you off with all of the above possibilities? Well, that certainly wasn’t my intention. I just wanted to open your eyes and state facts that actually happen in the world of Internet. It happened with me until I came across ViralURL , that brought a revolution to my online ventures.

I've Joined Some Safelists, Now How Do I Organize All Of The Chaos In My Inbox?

Safelists can be a great way to drive traffic to your website. The key, though, is to be organized, or you get lost in the chaos. Here is my little primer on organizing yourself for safelists.

When you join a safelist, most tell you to use gmail. You will need a contact email and a safelist email. You can use yournamecontact or whatever you choose, but I suggest you use the word 'contact' in your contact email username and the word 'safelist' in your safelist email username.

Here is the link to Google gmail: http://mail.google.com/

Write down your usernames and passwords for future use.

As you join each safelist, they will send you an email with a link to click on to verify you as a member. Then you will get a welcome email. When you open these emails, click on the link at the top right of your email that says,"show details."

Who the email is from will drop down. Copy the email from the from line, go up above the email by the "Search the Web" box and click on "Create a filter." A box will pop up and then paste the email address into the “From” box.

Now click "Next Step." Now choose the action "Apply the label" by clicking on the box next to those words. Click "Choose label" and "New label." Type the name you want on the label such as "GOT Safelist".

Now all of the emails from that list with that "from address" will go to that Label and you can just click on the labels to the left and all of the emails will be grouped together. You might get a few, perhaps from
administration, that don't have that exact from address, but you just copy those email addresses and apply them to the correct label so they are all in the same group.

That's how I organize all of my lists. It makes it easier to group them that way and handle all of the emails. Make sure you keep track of your usernames and passwords for your safelists, track your ads, and pay attention to your competitor's headlines/ads that are grabbing your attention.

Here is a list of my favorite traffic programs and the program that is bringing inall of my money right now.

Here's a text-based exchange I like:
Fast Action Ads

Credit-Based Safelists:
GOT Safelist
Elite Safelist
Adtactics

Viral List Builders:
Viral Ad Store
List Joe

and Manual Traffic Exchanges:
Tezak Traffic Power
Traffic Wonderland
Blue-Surf

How Beginning Internet Marketers Can Be Successful

There is tons of advice out there on internet marketing. I know. I have started, and failed, started again, and failed. Started again. The problem, is that the beginning marketer does not know how to sort through all of the products and advice out there to get started without getting over-whelmed and inundated with a million products. Thank goodness, there is help for the newbie.

First of all, internet marketing is a business and needs to be treated as one. There are many get-rich-quick schemes out there which get you all excited about making millions of dollars online with little or no effort. People buy into these, paying anywhere from a few dollars to thousands and become disappointed when their little or no effort pays no dividends.

There are, however, ways to help the beginner get started without having to pay for a million products and invest a lot of money to get started. What do you have to put in? Time and hard work. Those two have a dollar cost as well. The old adage rings true. Time is money.

However, you wouldn't take a college course at night or online and not expect to put in the time and effort, would you? You shouldn't expect not to put in the time and effort if you want to earn money online either.

The beginning internet marketer becomes confused by being bombarded by all of the advice that is out there. Do I buy this product and learn about Social Networking? Building a List? SEO? Copywriting? How do I put all of this together?

When I started, that was my problem with internet marketing. I bought this program which was going to do everything for me. Then I had to build a website. How do I do that?

Then I had to build a client list. How do I do that? How do I manage it? I had to make sure that I had copywriting skills to be able to convince people to buy my product. How do I do that?

I had to be able to make sure that the search engines ranked my website high so people could find it. How do I do that with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?

Now I have to learn about Social Networking. What's a tweet?

I ended up buying all of these different products, getting torn in one direction and another, and not knowing how to put it all together. There are companies out there that will charge you thousands of dollars to assist you in starting a online business and you end up with nothing but debt.

After my experience with internet marketing, I believe what the beginnner needs is a way to walk them through the steps. I began with learning some about copywriting and found someone willing to teach me how to put everything together.

I have written a booklet on saleswriting and found an excellent program which uses video to walk the beginning internet marketer through the steps of how to put a business together.

I wish I would have had someone to teach me this when I started. I would not have wasted all of those hours and money trying to figure out all of the aspects of internet marketing and become totally confused.

It’s great to be able to look over someone's shoulder so to speak as they walk you through each step of how to sell on the internet. Whether it be someone else's product or your own.

You can access my booklet on saleswriting, "HOW TO CREATE EYE-POPPING COPY TO BLAST YOUR SALES THROUGH THE ROOF!," and the step-by-step video here: internet marketing .
